Folks approach this album with the wrong expectations. If you're thinking it's a typical late Dylan record, it's pretty strange. But if you consider it an old-school, early Tom Waits release, it's absolutely fantastic.
so my sealed (!) copy arrived with a noticeable scratch on track B1, all thanks to sony music's top-notch quality control. way to go, team, you've truly justified that 20 euro price tag!
This is absolutely an audiophile-grade recording. Al Schmitt captured Dylan and his band live onto tape, employing vintage Neumann and various ribbon microphones fed into Neve preamps at Capitol Studios. I'm not certain if the final cut was done at Sterling, but honestly, it's irrelevant - the sound is so rich, warm, and impeccably vintage. After streaming this album countless times over the years, I finally decided to purchase the vinyl version. I can't believe I waited so long to do so. It's a must-have, assuming you manage to get a quiet pressing like I did.
Grabbed my version on release day. It's like someone tossed it around like a frisbee and then drug it down the street, on both sides. Unreal. Ain't just me, right?
