The jacket smells terrible, yeah. Really hope this isn't something they'll keep doing. But aside from that tiny problem, this record is fantastic! Super flat, dead quiet, sounds incredible, and it looks great too! This might just make me warm up to Walmart's records. $26.97 in store today...
I opted for this one since my initial Canadian version had a bit too much hiss for my liking. There's something about this re-release that sounds a tad muffled to me. I went for the SACD, which I'd pick over this version any day. Truth be told, I still favor my original copy the most, noise and all.
I've always been a fan of Elton's singles, but for whatever reason, I never ventured into his albums. A few years ago, I got the big Jewel box set and slowly fell head over heels for it. Given the sheer number of tracks, there's hardly any skip-worthy songs. This inspired me to finally invest in a few of his albums, starting with this one. After a couple of spins, I was hooked. So much so, I've since purchased his autobiography, another book diving into his songs and albums, and 5 more of his seventies releases. The sound quality is fantastic to my ears. The bonus tracks are quite intriguing, and while the packaging is nice, it's rather plain. But the album itself deserves a solid 4.5. I can see this leading to a pricey journey! His discography is downright staggering :D
My copy is white and see-through!? I haven't spotted any like it.
I own this pressed record. It's a really nice, clear version. It's not his finest work, though, as side 2 is quite poor. It glows ruby when you hold it up to a bright light.
