I'm at a loss with these reviews. This re-release is terrible! Compared to my worn-out original 1987 (Dutch) version, it feels like half the music is missing. It's as if they mastered it from a low-quality MP3. Maybe if you're an iPod kid, you might think the sound is okay... But let me, a "boomer," tell you, it's not good at all!! I've got plenty of regular 80's vinyl records, no 180 grams, no 'magician' remastering, that all sound fantastic! Don't waste your money on this, hunt down an original copy in decent shape instead.
Couldn't say it better. Absolutely fantastic. So many words, and guess what, even more words!
Many talented musicians have put out double albums that were decent, but might've been even better if they'd been shorter. SIGN O' THE TIMES is one of those double records that doesn't feel overstuffed. Initially planned as a triple LP, featuring tracks from the 'Camille' and 'Dream Factory' projects, Prince was at his creative best back then, and it all comes together as a fantastic double album. This is the 1987 Specialty pressing, and it sounds fantastic. Not too polished or shiny, with plenty of bass, and a very lively, detailed sound. My copy plays smooth with just a bit of faint surface noise. Five stars and a smiley face.
This is an outstanding issue, even better than my original 1987 version...it truly stands out...no harshness and significantly improved bass and midrange. The pressings are top-notch, handled by Optimal and mastered by Bernie Grundman. I'm happy I secured the Warner Bros version as the entire catalog is moving to Sony/Legacy and I'm not a fan of their recent pressing standards.
This record's sound is crystal clear and the packaging is absolutely top-notch.
