After waiting, I finally purchased the USA edition at the store in Paisley Park a couple of months back. I was present and figured this ought to be a solid copy, sadly. This USA version is also packed with swooshing noises and ticks, just like the EU version. The day before, I got a new EU copy (https://www.discogs.com/release/25987555-Prince-One-Nite-Alone-Solo-Piano-And-Voice-By-Prince) This one is flawless! I believe they used a fresh lacquer cut; the matrix/runout begins with 21 (MPO logo]® and its matching 21 ###### numbers) instead of 19(USA version) and/or 20(USA and EU version). Has anyone else encountered this?
I've received six fresh vinyl copies (EU version) of this record, and it's not improving. I've sent them all back. Now I've ordered from the USA (still waiting for it). There are two worse pressings out there. Pressing 1 on side A has a wavy pressing and ticks (pressing faults) in several tracks at the same spot on all copies of pressing 1. Side B is fine. Pressing 2 on side A has no wavy pressing but has swooshing sounds throughout the right channel. Side B is okay.
Amazing, underappreciated album. Stunning vocals on a top-notch pressing.
Terrible pressing. Devastating. Sent it back 3 times and still massive problems with audible pressing flaws, particularly on A Case of U. These kinds of noises on a piano/voice album make it unplayable, and Sony should be embarrassed as they're disrespecting Prince's memory and legacy to save a few bucks. The pressing is poor, and the records obviously unchecked before hitting the market. People should avoid this one and stop purchasing the purple reissue series, not because of the color but due to the crappy, low-cost factory they're from.
Must've been my lucky day with this one. Scrubbed it real good before playing, and it's near flawless...what a stunning record, too. So chuffed I gave it a go!
