  • Atlantic Mingus Journey

    5 out of 5 stars
    baifjk4 November 2025United States🇺🇸

Oh, what do they call that thing called love? It's like the start of the Atlantic Mingus music journey, you know? This reissue is a really really solid remaster from those first two 10" records. But hey, it's missing a couple of tracks...not a huge deal, but us completists want it all...

  • Chill Early Mingus

    5 out of 5 stars
    FebXei29 July 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Picked this up today from a nearby record store. Fantastic record all the way through! Classic early Mingus, still figuring things out... so not as loud and bold as his later work (which came quick). It's got that chill, cool bop vibe, with some standards and tunes he wrote with John LaPorta. Playing it right now and loving it a lot... snag it if you're into some laid-back Mingus for a Sunday.

  • Warped but Playable Disc

    4 out of 5 stars
    Pkuar542227 July 2025United States🇺🇸

The disc I have is quite warped, making it hard to play, but it still works and sounds pretty decent with just a tiny bit of hissing.

  • Mingus' Early Masterpiece Shines

    3 out of 5 stars
    vexuMJ_11 July 2025United States🇺🇸

I had to bend my own rule, never purchase a Mingus record with him grinning on the cover. But, this is a solid early release by Mingus and his crew, packed with the beginnings of his ingenuity and wit, which would make his later, more intricate pieces so captivating. Right from the start, he blends "What Is This Thing" and "Hot House", so you get a sense of what's to come. The sound quality is excellent, recorded clearly and masterfully blended with a broad stereo soundscape. It's a tad more reverberant than I'm used to, but still very enjoyable. I'm not familiar with this label, Affinity, but I'm certainly impressed with the vinyl pressing.

  • Vinyl Pressing Perfection

    5 out of 5 stars
    lvrak87774 July 2025United States🇺🇸

Fantastic vinyl pressing with no background noise. The mastering here emphasizes a cozier mid-range and skips the overdone, artificial high-end treble. Consequently, this version is way more enjoyable to listen to than the digital ones, which are just too harsh. This is hands-down the best GZ pressing I've ever gotten. They really outdid themselves!
