The side one label is stuck on both sides of my record. It's likely not a usual mistake for this release.

I've played this album non-stop since I got it 4 days back! It's an absolute masterpiece! I even went back to the same shop today and grabbed their last copy for $44.99.

Wow, this has been one of the top finds this year! Three fantastic albums with incredible sound and stunning artwork. The band seems to be having a blast on stage. Amazing tunes, definitely worth checking out!" (Note: The rewritten review maintains the casual tone, enthusiasm, and length of the original. It conveys the same meaning but uses different words. The original did not contain any spelling or grammatical errors, so none were introduced in the rewritten version. No new information was added.)

  • Jazz Tribute Album Shines

    5 out of 5 stars
    kuzqb2419 July 2025United States🇺🇸

This album is a fantastic, laid-back jam session packed with incredible musicians paying tribute to jazz's past, present, and future. You can sense Mingus' sheer joy and engagement during the concert through the liner notes. Rahsaan Roland Kirk truly shines on “C Jam Blues,” the final track of the set, despite being on side A. RRK shows his boldness, admiration, and respect for the master by referencing “A Love Supreme” in his solo and nailing an impression of George Adams, who had just played before him. The liner notes provide a detailed explanation of this and the solo order, enhancing the overall listening experience. Having listened to this set twice in the past two days since getting it, I'm now eager to explore the complete concert released in 2021 as a 3 LP set. Both tracks here are Ellington standards, serving as a tribute to the legend who had less than six months to live after this album was recorded. The recording and pressing, like most Atlantic jazz records, are impeccable, with outstanding sound quality.

This album is a fantastic, laid-back jam session filled with incredibly talented musicians paying homage to jazz's past, present, and future. The liner notes give you a sense that Mingus truly had a blast during this concert, soaking up every moment. Rahsaan Roland Kirk absolutely shines on “C Jam Blues,” which is on side A but was actually the grand finale of the set. RRK has the guts, admiration, and respect for the master to quote “A Love Supreme” in his solo and even does his best impression of George Adams, who coincidentally played right before him. The liner notes break down the solo order and provide extra context, making this record even more enjoyable. Having listened to this set twice in the last couple of days since I got it, I'm now eager to check out the 3 LP set of the complete concert that dropped in 2021. Both tracks here are Ellington classics, serving as a tribute to the legend who had less than half a year left after this album was recorded. Just like most Atlantic jazz records, the recording and pressing are top-notch, with stellar sound quality.
