Growing up, my brother would play this for me when I was just a kid. He's no longer with us, but I was lucky enough to find this first UK pressing at a local charity shop. It's seen better days, but I've done my best to clean it up, and now I can finally play it! It's 50 years old, so I guess a few cracks and pops are to be expected, right? What an incredible record. It's brought a tear to my eye, like I'm back in my childhood bedroom, listening all over again. Absolutely fantastic. The stereo sound on this LP is amazing, and the choral parts are just as you'd hope. So tight. If you don't own it, you should definitely get this one.
This vinyl record is absolutely vibrant & full of energy, offering clear sound, solid lows & an amazing stereo image. Long live Queen! Long live Freddy!
This is a timeless album, but this particular release doesn't quite capture its essence. I wonder if it's sourced from a compressed digital format? I don't want to sound pretentious, and I'm no audio expert, but it must be something along those lines. It just comes across as flat and lifeless. The layered vocals blend into one another, and there's no spark from the guitar or cymbals in the high end. The overall effect is an album that lacks excitement. Where I once found it thrilling, this version comes across as dull. I'm going to hunt down an original pressing to compare.
This record packs a punch with its bass, which might add a bit too much distortion for some. According to the note inside the jacket, it's been recreated using tech from the original first-gen master mixes. I'm not entirely convinced that's the best approach, but I do think half-speed mastering could've sounded even better, in my opinion.
I managed to snag a fantastic one for just a buck. These days, any record for a dollar is a steal, but this one's simply amazing. The pressing? No issues here. Just a fantastic, powerful sound.
