The "s" sound comes out as a hiss and the IGD is most noticeable on "Now I'm Here." The audio is quite bass-heavy and lacks depth. That said, the music itself is, as always, fantastic.
Ah, this is where things get exciting with Queen! Now, this half-speed edition's got a bit of a boomy vibe, so I had to dial down the bass a notch. Seems like all the 2015 half-speed pressings are like that. The details are hiding in there, but you gotta fiddle with the EQ to bring 'em out. Some folks weren't too fond of the Ludwig remasters, and yep, this vinyl's cut from those. Sadly, there's some compression goin' on. I've got all Queen's albums on vinyl, multiple copies from different eras. Here's a tip: crank up the volume on these half-speed pressings! Generally, I'd say old pressings are better overall, as modern vinyl can be a letdown. The vocal details on this one are pretty decent, though. Analog recordings should really stick to the AAA path when they're being produced. These half-speeds are made from digital files, ya know? Anyway, some people expect vinyl to sound like a firework show, but it's got lower sound quality than CDs. If you're after the best sound, stick with CDs!
there should be a 'unicorny' type with the real inner sleeve, 4 rounded/cut edges, but no song words. seems like it's one of the earliest versions....sounds incredible.
Overall, this sounds quite good, though there's a bit of hissiness that might annoy some. Any thoughts on when it was made?
Picked up this 1976 reissue without any expectations about the quality. The highs are fantastic, vocals blend perfectly and the bass is incredibly dynamic. In my opinion, this is Queen at their peak, with a guitar sound that's absolutely incredible.
