Product description

Lou Reed's third solo studio album, "Berlin," is a gripping narrative that delves into the dark and complex world of addiction, abuse, and toxic relationships. Released in October 1973 under RCA Records, this album marks a stark departure from Reed's previous glam rock sound, offering a raw and intense exploration of human struggles. With a runtime of 49 minutes, "Berlin" features 10 tracks that weave a harrowing yet beautifully arranged tale of Jim and Caroline, leaving the judgment to the audience. The album's blend of glam rock and proto-punk elements, coupled with dark humor and stunning arrangements, makes it a compelling listen. "Berlin" is not just an album; it's a story that challenges and engages, showcasing Lou Reed's ability to craft a powerful and unforgettable narrative.

This is a 1985 Reissue released as a LP.

  • Regretting Indy Upgrade

    5 out of 5 stars

I traded in a ~VG Hollywood for what's essentially a NM Indianapolis (though I gotta admit, I overpaid for it… 😒), and honestly, I'm having second thoughts. With all those pops, this one had such a crystal-clear soundstage, completely free from that annoying background hiss that the Indy has, which is SUPER bothersome with headphones. I kinda wish I could take it back, but since I bought it while on vacation… Oh well, at least it sounds decent through speakers.

I traded in a ~VG Hollywood for what's essentially a NM Indianapolis (though I gotta admit, I overpaid for it… 😒), and I gotta say, I'm having second thoughts. The pops on the Hollywood were minimal, and it had such a crisp, clear soundstage, unlike the Indy's background hiss that's incredibly annoying with headphones. I almost want to send it back, but since I bought it while on vacation… Oh well, at least it sounds decent through speakers.

This is my second favorite vinyl record to date, an outstanding work by an amazing artist. After attending one of his live concerts, I've been collecting his records ever since.

About Lou Reed

Lou Reed, born Lewis Allan Reed, was an iconic American singer-songwriter, musician, and actor, best known as the frontman of the influential rock band The Velvet Underground. With his distinctive deadpan voice, provocative lyrics, and innovative guitar playing, Reed left an indelible mark on the music world. Formed in 1965, The Velvet Underground, under Reed's guidance, produced four groundbreaking albums that, though not commercially successful at the time, have since been hailed as enormously influential. The band's association with Andy Warhol's Factory scene further cemented their status as pioneers of underground and alternative rock. Beyond The Velvet Underground, Reed's solo career spanned five decades, encompassing a diverse range of styles from glam rock to proto-punk. His solo work, including hits like "Walk on the Wild Side" and "Perfect Day," showcased his versatility and enduring impact on modern music. Reed's legacy as one of rock's most important singer-songwriters is undeniable, with a body of work that stands alongside legends like Dylan and Lennon-McCartney.
