  I bought this album fresh when it dropped. The vinyl is stunning and blows the CD version out of the water in terms of sound. The artwork and packaging are classic Maiden, absolutely top-notch. You can have it from me when I'm six feet under. LOL.

• Keyboards Ruin Blaze's Potential

  In my view, Blaze is unfairly criticized. If you pay attention to Bruce during the live shows on the NOTB tour...and observe his performance...Blaze is spot on...and the vocals are quite alike. So, why did this album receive such harsh criticism? I'll tell you...THE AWFUL KEYBOARDS, which seem to dominate the mix. In my opinion, they should go back and remix this album without any keyboards. If you can manage to overlook that, it's a pretty solid heavy metal album.

• Blaze Bayley's Era with Weak Maiden

  With the song title "Futureal", the band seemed not only to want to look into the past but also to take a glimpse into the future. However, this future looked rather bleak for interim singer Blaze Bayley, as this was supposed to be his last album with Iron Maiden. In hindsight, this decision turned out to be the right one, as with "The angel and the gambler" the most annoying song in the band's history was committed to record. Annoying because the lyrics "Don't you think I'm a savior / Don't you think I could save you / Don't you think I could save your life" are repeated for minutes on end. And really: is this still the heavy metal we are used to from Iron Maiden, or rather boring hard rock for older gentlemen? With songs like "The educated fool" and "Don't look to the eyes of a stranger" one suspects the latter. Only "Lightning strikes twice" - a song about the fear of thunderstorms - convinces, as here the singer's rough voice scores at the end with the line "Maybe lightning strikes twice". With the title "The clansman", inspired by "Braveheart", one notices clearly how weak the replacement at the microphone is, when one hears the later live version by Bruce Dickinson, which comes across a thousand times better. Conclusion: Two albums were simply too much for Blaze Bayley.
