★★★★★ Absolutely fantastic 2024 reissue! This Verve By Request version of Thembi is top-notch. The vinyl is flawlessly flat and super quiet, with minimal noise after a good clean. The soundstage is vast, deep, and incredibly three-dimensional, allowing Pharoah Sanders’ tenor to flow naturally through the space instead of being fixed to a single speaker. The imaging is solid and well-defined, with excellent separation between the horns, rhythm section, and background ambiance. Musically, the album is engaging and well-structured, blending spiritual depth with a strong sense of form, and “Astral Traveling” is an outstanding track for testing system depth and imaging. This reissue is highly recommended and does a fantastic job of honoring this classic Impulse! record.
This record is absolutely enchanting, an ideal way to dive into this stunning spiritual masterwork. The soundstage is vast and incredibly three-dimensional, it's easy to get completely immersed in the music. Every instrument is crisp and distinct, with fantastic dynamics. Just flawless!
As others have pointed out, there's way too much distortion here, suggesting that some copies must've had serious issues, given the feedback. I've owned this vinyl for a couple of years now and could barely get through a full side. It's a real bummer, especially coming from Impulse, as stuff like this takes away from the whole vinyl experience...
I own this edition. It's a gorgeous pressing. The details are fantastic and the soundstage is wide open. Every instrument is distinct and there's a lovely warmth to the overall audio. I'd definitely recommend it.
Just a small chance, but if anyone's got an extra cover in VG shape or above, I'm interested! Thanks a bunch
