This pressing sounds absolutely delightful - it's rich and warm with an impressive range. The music, of course, is fantastic too. Hum-Allah-Hum-Allah-Hum-Allah is an incredibly catchy vocal piece that builds to an exhilarating solo finale, while Sun In Aquarius is a profound spiritual jazz journey filled with more free-form elements.
This pressing sounds absolutely delightful - it's rich and warm with an impressive range. The music is fantastic too, naturally. This pressing I've got here is pretty decent, I must say. It needed a good clean straight out the sleeve, but I guess it wasn't one of those fancy audiophile editions. No inner groove distortion that I can hear, even though side one's pretty lengthy... They must've known what they were doing when they mastered it. On a side note, I always wonder what's the deal with these releases? They seem to put out just enough copies, then they vanish into thin air and become collectibles... Some get repressed, some don't... It's like they're playing hide and seek with the Alice Coltrane releases... One minute they're there, the next they're gone, then suddenly they're back again repressed. With Pharaoh, it seems like there's just a tad more people wanting his music on vinyl than they're willing to put out, haha. I've been on the hunt for that India Navigation LP for years now, legit or not... Can't even find it on CD! Anyway, this is definitely a solid release and sounds great on vinyl.
This pressing I've got here is pretty decent in terms of sound quality. It did need a good clean straight out the sleeve, but then again, I don't reckon this was meant to be some special audiophile edition. No inner groove distortion that I can hear, even though side one is quite lengthy... Seems like they did a good job with the mastering. On a side note, I've always wondered what the thinking is behind these releases? They seem to put out just enough copies, then those disappear into obscurity and become collectibles... Some get reissued and some don't... It's like they're playing this game with the Alice Coltrane records... One minute they're there, the next they're gone, and then suddenly they're back again reissued. With Pharaoh, it feels like there's just a tad more demand for his music on vinyl than they're willing to meet, haha. I've been on the hunt for that India Navigation LP for ages now, legit or not... Can't even find it on CD! Anyway, this is definitely a solid release and a well-sounding slab of vinyl.
Finally managed to get my hands on it! The sound quality is fantastic, in my opinion. It's as lively as this recording can possibly get. The instruments are nicely distinct, with hardly any distortions. The surface is quiet, and the vinyl and packaging are top-notch. I'm really happy with this version.
