Fantastic record - incredible album. Tough to top the brilliant Court and Spark, but years down the line, we all see she nailed it perfectly. Would absolutely suggest this pressing.
★★★★★ Amazing tunes and a really good (though not flawless) pressing. Joni’s vocals are spot-on, centered perfectly with excellent clarity, and the instruments complement her voice wonderfully, with realistic tone and clear distinction—those melodies and arrangements are absolutely stunning. The soundstage is pleasantly wide, though not as vast as I'd hoped for, and the overall presentation lacks just a touch of that crisp "snap" or dynamic punch I was anticipating. My copy also has a bit more ticks/pops and subtle surface noise than I'd like for a modern re-release—nothing truly bothersome, just a tad underwhelming. Still, the musical journey is top-notch: 5/5 with those minor reservations.
Among her finest works, this album boasts an amazing sound quality and an excellent Santa Maria pressing. Snag a NM copy and you're in for a treat!
I must say, I'm quite impressed with how great this sounds. The instruments are well-separated, the bass is punchy, and the hi-hats are crisp. Honestly, I'm really pleased. There's a bit of surface noise, but it's not bothersome. It's not my top pick from Mitchell's albums, but I'm less familiar with this one. Given how good it sounds, I think I'll give it more spins than I initially planned.
Picked up this second-hand gem after checking out the “mind-blowing” roster of musicians listed in the liner notes. This album is fantastic! It was ahead of its time by a decade… in every way – culturally, stylistically, and instrumentally. The lyrics are clever, delivered with smooth professionalism and impressive skill, backed by solid recording quality and just the right amount of “mastering”. What a pleasant shock…
