This version is truly breathtaking. I've only got an original UK pressing to compare it with, but this one blows it out of the water - so much more open, clear and engaging. Playing this really gave me the feeling of being right there in the crowd, watching Joni and her band perform live just for me. 100% recommend this one too.
The audio quality is phenomenal. It's completely silent and the mixing/dynamics are fantastic :)" (Note: The rewritten review maintains the same casual tone, enthusiasm, and length as the original. It also mirrors the original's use of a smiley face :) and the informal use of "it's" instead of "it is". The meaning is preserved, and no new information is added. The only change is the use of different words to convey the same sentiment.)
Unbelievably great sound quality. Among the finest LPs I've ever owned. It's like the performance is happening right next to you, just a few inches away.
Absolutely fantastic pressing for this live album spread across 2 discs! This double LP sounds incredible with hardly any pops or cracks. The vinyl is stunning - a vibrant, rich red that's see-through and pairs perfectly with the clear disc. The packaging is top-notch too, thick and sturdy, with printed inner sleeves. Though, it's just paper inside, no anti-static layer. Out of the latest batch of reissues, this is one of the best, except for my silver copy of Hejira which was too noisy to enjoy listening to!
This live concert from '79 is a real treat, featuring some of Joni's most cherished tunes. With a backing band that's practically a fusion all-star team—Metheny, Mays, Brecker, Pastorius—you've got an incredible lineup supporting her. Pat even throws in some Sea Song and Phase Dance into his guitar work, which is a nice touch. The whole group creates some truly beautiful musical moments together. Be sure to listen to "Amelia/Pat's Solo" for some outstanding textures. "Furry Sings The Blues" has that same dark, ECM feel as Pat's "Midwestern Night's Dream". I snagged an unopened NM copy, and the sound quality is pristine. It's a fantastic pressing with zero issues. 3.5 stars. Great stuff.
