NYJeffy nailed it in his review – this CD of Elton's second album is a real treat for the ears. It kicks off with "Your Song," a tune that seems simple on the surface but I bet is way more intricate than it lets on. It's one of those tracks I could listen to on repeat forever. The rest of the album keeps up the good vibe, with piano ballads and the occasional rocker that gives it a bit of an edge. Even this early in his career, you can tell Elton's got serious talent and confidence to spare. Sure, everyone talks about "Honky Chateau," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," and "Captain Fantastic," but this album's got plenty of gems too. I'm on the hunt for a mint vinyl copy someday, but for now, I'm loving my double disc deluxe edition. The bonus disc is packed with goodies: demos, radio sessions, and the booklet's a fun read with some great photos. I'm pretty new to Elton's world. I've always dug his singles but never really explored his albums. A few years back, I snagged that amazing eight-disc "Jewel Box" set. It was a bit overwhelming with all those deep cuts and demos, but also super exciting. It's been a while since I dove into an artist with such a huge catalog, and the "Jewel Box" was my gateway into Elton's music. After getting through that collection, I picked up a handful of his seventies albums and I'm taking my time enjoying them. The idea of really getting to know an artist of Elton's caliber is thrilling, and I'm looking forward to checking out more of his work. I just grabbed his autobiography "Me," plus a massive book covering all his songs and albums – basically an Elton version of that incredible Nick Pegg David Bowie encyclopedia. My Christmas is shaping up to be all about food, the "Rocketman" movie, and tons of music – mostly the "Jewel Box" and this album. "Sgt. Zippo" is on its way too, but I think it'll get here after the holidays. Something to look forward to! So, great album? You bet! Awesome songs and performances? Absolutely! Replayability? Without a doubt! Wishing all Elton fans a Merry Christmas. Think of me just starting this musical journey! 😊
"Your Song" might just be his greatest composition. "Border Song" is, of course, another timeless piece. This album is truly outstanding, and the pressing is quite good too.
Great album, I didn't really get Elton John's music before. This one has changed my mind.
This version sounds really great, even though it comes from high-resolution digital sources.
This is album number two. It's just not where it should be.
