Fantastic album featuring brilliantly crafted songs. The gatefold showcases an incredible red Jaguar with Elton behind the wheel.
Just like NYJeffy mentioned in his review, this CD version of Elton's second album is a real treat for the ears. It all starts with 'Your Song' - a tune that seems so simple on the surface but I reckon is way more intricate than it appears. It's one of those songs I could listen to over and over again. The rest of the album keeps up the good vibe, with piano ballads and the occasional rock 'n' roll stomp reminiscent of the Rolling Stones. Even at this early point in his career, Elton's confidence and skill shine through, showing off his immense talent. While everyone tends to focus on 'Honky Chateau', 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', and 'Captain Fantastic', there's plenty of quality packed into this release. I'd love to get my hands on a mint condition vinyl copy someday. For now, I'm more than happy with my double disc deluxe edition. The bonus disc is packed with extras: demos, radio sessions, and the booklet is a fascinating read with a great selection of photos. I'm pretty new to Elton John's music. I've always enjoyed his singles, though I never bought any, and I never really explored his albums. A few years back, I stumbled upon the amazing eight-disc 'Jewel Box' collection. Having so many deep cuts and demos from Elton's career was a bit overwhelming but also really exciting. It had been a while since I'd gotten into an artist with such a vast back catalog, and 'Jewel Box' was my gateway into Elton's world. After getting familiar with that collection, I bought about half a dozen of his seventies albums and I'm taking my time enjoying them. The idea of really getting to know an artist of Elton's caliber is thrilling, and I'll slowly start checking out his other releases. I've just bought his autobiography 'Me', as well as a comprehensive book covering all his songs and albums - an Elton version of the incredible Nick Pegg David Bowie encyclopedia. My Christmas is going to be filled with lots of food, the 'Rocketman' movie, and tons of music - mainly the 'Jewel Box' and this album. 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' is on its way too, but I think it won't arrive until after the holidays. Something to look forward to. So, is this a good album? You bet! Great songs and performances? Absolutely! Replayability? Without a doubt! Merry Christmas to all Elton fans. Think of me just starting this incredible journey!

"Your Song" might just be his finest work yet. And let's not forget "Border Song," it's a true gem. This album is really well put together and the pressing is pretty good too.
