The Big Picture" marked my first venture into Elton John's discography. It was a present I received at the tender age of 19. Having just settled into my own place, I found myself spending countless nights immersed in the melodies and lyrics of this album. My appreciation for John's music had grown significantly after "The Lion King" and the radio hit "Something About the Way You Look Tonight". While I've come across several less-than-positive remarks about this album, it holds a special place in my heart as it was quite influential during that period of my life. Having been brought up on mostly faith-oriented music, this album was quite the revelation. The title track remains one of my favorites, and the opening duo "A Long Way From Happiness" and "Live Like Horses" are absolutely stunning. I must admit, I wish John's piano playing was more prominent throughout, and I often find myself pondering how these tracks might sound in a more minimalistic, acoustic arrangement.
Fantastic album with incredible sound quality. 🎵 Happy to add it to my EJ collection! 😊
After so many years since his peak, this might just be his finest work in around twenty years. It didn't get great reviews, so it might be his most overlooked album ever. If you haven't heard it yet, you should absolutely give it a listen. The majority of it is really solid. Unlike most Elton John albums that lack in sound quality, this one might actually be his best sounding album. The vinyl version sounds fantastic, and the original CD release also has excellent sound quality too.
The odd sound quality of this record took me back to mp3 files. Stereo was lacking, vocals were too prominent. I was let down.
