This is an absolutely phenomenal album in Elton John's discography. Captured during a live performance at London's A&R Studios, the sound quality is impeccable, making it one of the clearest live recordings out there. What's truly remarkable, though, is that Elton performs with just bass and drums backing him up. The fantastic rhythm duo of Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson perfectly complement Elton's piano and vocals. The song selection for this broadcast is also noteworthy. With five tracks penned by Bernie Taupin and Elton himself, plus one each from Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, and delta blues artist Arthur Crudup, it's a stellar mix that showcases Elton's incredible voice and piano skills. I can't praise this record enough—it's a brilliant snapshot of Elton's early work, before his fame skyrocketed with "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
Bought this not long ago at a vintage shop. Super happy with the sound quality. Elton seems like he's just enjoying himself. Definitely worth checking out!
This is an amazing pressing! It's been remastered from the original analog tapes by Bob Ludwig and pressed in Germany—there's a sticker on the back that suggests it might be Pallas. The sound quality is truly outstanding! With just three instruments, the audio is so dynamic and rich! Elton John's piano skills are absolutely breathtaking, and Dee Murray on bass and Nigel Olsson on drums keep the rhythm so tight and groovy that it's mind-blowing. Elton himself has mentioned that this is not only his favorite live recording of his own work but also one of the best ever—it's hard to argue with that! With deep cuts from his early catalog and fantastic covers (including Stones and Beatles tracks), this is a must-have for any Elton John fan. I've seen some mixed reviews about the (now pricey) RSD 2LP pressing, so I went with this one and couldn't be happier. If you can still find a copy, snag it—you won't regret it!
Absolutely love this album, the audio quality is fantastic! Elton's Vinyl Pressings are truly impressive, I'm learning more and more.
If you're not convinced that Elton is a musical legend, give this a listen. Incredible live performance with just a small group, including him. Really something else.
