Elvis absolutely shines on this fantastic recording with Bill and Scotty. Captured before the Heartbreak Hotel era, from July 1954 to July 1955. His voice is youthful and unpolished, yet incredibly smooth.
Since music's inception, few compilation albums have reached this level of greatness. A must-have for any true music enthusiast. This collection truly showcases why Elvis was such a pivotal figure in music history.
Roughly two-thirds of Elvis' Sun Records output is featured here, and it's a fantastic display of why he became such a sensation. Regardless of what you might say about the white audience's late appreciation for Black music, Elvis was the first white artist to genuinely embrace and honor Black blues music while seamlessly blending it with his country roots. Plus, he had an amazing backup band. Scotty Moore, in particular, was an absolute guitar genius (and I'm guessing arranger too), stripping things down to the essentials yet keeping it punchy and direct. Elvis' ability to excel in blues, country, and early rock & roll was unmatched during that era. Absolutely phenomenal. I just wish this was the complete Sun collection.
Discovered this badass item at the Enderby Junk Shop for a buck. It's got the original MONO-mixes of all E's Sun Studios tracks. Absolutely rad, dude!
