Product description

Dive into the avant-garde soundscape of CAN's 1971 masterpiece, "Tago Mago," a groundbreaking work that defies conventional genres and pushes the boundaries of rock music. This seminal album, released under Spoon Records, is a captivating blend of krautrock, space rock, progressive rock, experimental, psychedelic rock, art rock, and even proto-punk elements, showcasing CAN's innovative and eclectic approach to music.

Spanning a substantial 73 minutes, "Tago Mago" is a journey through seven intricate tracks, each offering a unique sonic experience. From the hypnotic rhythms of "Paperhouse" to the chaotic energy of "Halleluwah," CAN masterfully weaves together complex compositions that are as intellectually stimulating as they are emotionally resonant. The album's length and depth make it a rewarding listen, inviting repeated exploration to uncover its many layers.

CAN's experimental approach is evident throughout, with unconventional song structures, improvisational passages, and a fusion of electronic and organic instruments. The band's use of repetitive rhythms, layered textures, and ethereal vocals creates an immersive atmosphere that sets "Tago Mago" apart from other releases of its time.

This album is a testament to CAN's pioneering spirit and their influence on the development of experimental and electronic music. "Tago Mago" is not just an album; it's an experience that challenges listeners to expand their musical horizons and embrace the unexpected. Whether you're a longtime fan of CAN or a newcomer to their work, "Tago Mago" offers a rich and rewarding journey into the world of avant-garde rock.

This 1983 Reissue 2LP set is housed in a gatefold.

  • Vinyl Remaster Shines Bright

    5 out of 5 stars
    TekiWxjiJufpJanuary 5, 2026United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Gotta give this 5 stars 'cause it blows the CD version outta the water. Super dynamic with an awesome range of sound separation. Mastered loud. It's hot and bright in some spots but I can't really fault that, seems like that's the vibe they were aiming for with this remaster. Definitely a must-have on vinyl and I'm stoked that I finally snagged it.

  • Excellent Quality, Great Pressing

    5 out of 5 stars
    YoktiPuxgDecember 21, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

The quality of my copy is excellent. As I haven't had the chance to compare it to other versions, I can't spot any surface imperfections, and the audio is crisp and spacious. Disc 1 has a slight wobble, but it doesn't impact the sound at all. Great pressing and mastering for a price that does this fantastic album justice.

  • Can's Timeless Masterpiece Remastered

    5 out of 5 stars
    bvyifipkafiDecember 19, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Hands down, this is and always has been my top pick from Can. I've got the first pressing on Spoon, and I gave this fresh remastered version a spin. Like someone else mentioned, I'm picking up on details I'd never noticed before, and I've listened to this record more times than I can count. I'm stumped as to why so many folks are griping about this reissue... perhaps their ears aren't what they used to be? I'm absolutely in love with this album, and it's sounding phenomenal.

  • Live 1972 Cologne Broadcast

    4 out of 5 stars
    zeztbicbNovember 13, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

This live CD captures a radio broadcast from the Grosser Sendesaal at WDR Funkhaus in Cologne, Germany, dated June 24, 1972.

  • Mids Overwhelm

    4 out of 5 stars
    Miquzuq_ZbonljNovember 9, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Slightly too mid-heavy for me to give it a perfect score. It's got awesome dynamics and instrument clarity, but the bass notes can get buried sometimes. The mids do step on each other a bit as well. Highs are crisp and don't distort. Really good, but not quite great.
