Awesome Show, or 45 mins of it, Can Lovers will be Happy !
If you share my opinion that their later work isn't their best, then you might find this release somewhat enjoyable - it's definitely more pleasant to listen to than most of Saw Delight, Animal Waves excluded - and it's a well-recorded album with good stereo sound. It's not mind-blowingly brilliant, but it's consistently enjoyable and never dull. Holger's radio and tape additions are subtle for the most part, but you can catch the Boat Woman Song from Canaxis and the Persian singer from Persian Love at various points. Compared to the Rarities & Few CD, I wouldn't say there's a noticeable improvement in clarity or detail - that CD already sounded great and seems to have been the source for this release, given the identical tracks. However, some equalization has been applied, resulting in a noticeable boost in bass, which is a welcome change - we are talking about a Jamaican bassist, after all. This is the first in this live series that I've purchased on vinyl - several of the others had tracks too long to fit on one side of an LP. The overall sound quality of the pressing is very nice, but there are a number of light ticks - maybe ten across the whole LP. The loud tick at the beginning of the first track is also on the 1991 CD, so it's not a pressing fault if you were wondering.
Gorgeous audio and record quality. But why just the first part of the performance? There's a tape out there with the complete set. Nevermind. Still, a truly delightful album!
