  • BN Tone Poet Shines Again

Incredible clarity and depth. Yet another fantastic BN Tone Poet release!

  • Flawed but fantastic album

    3 out of 5 stars
    xkyzrFebruary 21, 2025United States🇺🇸

Incredible record, absolutely love it (5 Stars). But, I've got a few clicks and pops on Track A2. Gave it a good clean, no luck. Sent it back, next one had the same problem. Sending it back again... RTI, I'm exhausted with this.

  • Solid Pressing with Minor Flaw

    4 out of 5 stars
    uopsfeinoFebruary 2, 2025United States🇺🇸

Overall, this record delivers a fantastic sound. The audio quality is impressively clear and detailed. My copy does have a brief sequence of faint ticks on "Darn That Dream," which, ironically, is the quietest track. It's a minor flaw, noticeable but not enough to make me want to find a replacement. Apart from that, it's a solid pressing and a great addition to the Tone Poet series.

  • Smooth Jazz Pressing Excellence

    5 out of 5 stars
    mcibqestSeptember 1, 2024United States🇺🇸

This pressing is incredibly quiet, with a sound that's as smooth as silk. Mobley's sax just leaps out of the left speaker, crystal clear. The drums are tucked away in the right channel, with a nice snap on the thwacks and a beautiful decay on the cymbals. That classic soft Rudy van Gelder piano sits right in the middle, while the bass lines come through the right channel. Overall, it's top-notch, a solid 5 stars. Cartridge used: AT150Sa

  • Worth Every Penny

    5 out of 5 stars
    rfjvyjwsJuly 29, 2024United States🇺🇸

I forked over 20 euro for this gem (that's the usual price for Blue Note Classics and Tone Poet pressings at the major record store chain near me) - and let me tell you, it was worth every penny! This is an amazing, flawless pressing with an unbeatable value for money. Don't wait, grab it now! It'll have you nodding your head and tapping your toes in no time.

About Hank Mobley

Hank Mobley, the "middleweight champion of the tenor saxophone," carved out a unique niche in the jazz world with his laid-back, melodic style that perfectly embodied the hard bop genre. Born in Eastman, Georgia, Mobley's smooth and soulful sound stood out amidst the more aggressive tones of his contemporaries like John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. His compositions, such as "Soul Station" and "Dig Dis," are staples of the hard bop canon, and his extensive work with Blue Note Records from the 1950s to the 1970s solidified his status as a jazz legend. Mobley's collaborations with giants like Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, and Art Blakey showcased his versatility and influence, making him a pivotal figure in the development of hard bop. His distinctive tone and subtle, melodic approach continue to inspire generations of musicians, cementing his legacy as one of the most underrated yet essential figures in jazz history.
