  • A.P. Delivers Again

    5 out of 5 stars

Incredible pressing! Spotless, flat and perfect! Very lively with depth and tons of detail. It boasts a full, warm, rich and expansive sound. A.P. always delivers!

  • Mobley's Swing, Flawed Vinyl

    3 out of 5 stars
    galePZ_August 16, 2025United States🇺🇸

Mobley, Morgan, & Co. absolutely killed it in this session. The energy is infectious, the playing is spot-on, and the improv is top-notch. Mobley's got that swing down pat, nobody does it better. "Speak Low" is a standout track for sure. The recording's not perfect though. There's this weird, annoying filter on the ride cymbal that grinds my gears, probably from the master tape. And the vinyl? Total mess. Bought it new and it's got this weird, cloudy stuff all over, even little paper bits. After two cleanings, it's still crackly from all the gunk. Plus, there's these rub marks from being stored wrong. Bummer. A 4-star performance on a 3-star product.

  • Infectious Jazz, Flawed Vinyl

Mobley, Morgan, & Co. absolutely killed it in this session. The energy is infectious, the playing is spot-on, and the improv is top-notch. Mobley's swing is out of this world. "Speak Low" is an absolute standout track. The recording has a few issues, though. There's this weird notch filtering on the ride cymbal that's a bit irritating, probably from the master tape. And the vinyl itself is a mess. Bought it brand new, but it's got this weird cloudy stuff all over it, even some paper bits. After two washes, it's still crackly from all the gunk. Plus, there are rub marks from being stored wrong. Such a bummer. It's a 4-star performance with a 3-star product.

  • Budget-Friendly Pressing

    4 out of 5 stars
    BeporidhMay 4, 2025United States🇺🇸

I gotta say, this pressing is really good for its price. It's a solid, budget-friendly option compared to the pricier versions out there.

  • Vinyl Audio Quality Impressive

    5 out of 5 stars
    Xyuvo_Jcaba_HiomxMarch 22, 2025United States🇺🇸

The audio quality is fantastic! The vinyl is completely silent, and the mastering sounds rich and balanced to me - no shortage of bass like some folks have noted with other Japanese Blue Note re-releases.

About Hank Mobley

Hank Mobley, the "middleweight champion of the tenor saxophone," carved out a unique niche in the jazz world with his laid-back, melodic style that perfectly embodied the hard bop genre. Born in Eastman, Georgia, Mobley's smooth and soulful sound stood out amidst the more aggressive tones of his contemporaries like John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. His compositions, such as "Soul Station" and "Dig Dis," are staples of the hard bop canon, and his extensive work with Blue Note Records from the 1950s to the 1970s solidified his status as a jazz legend. Mobley's collaborations with giants like Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, and Art Blakey showcased his versatility and influence, making him a pivotal figure in the development of hard bop. His distinctive tone and subtle, melodic approach continue to inspire generations of musicians, cementing his legacy as one of the most underrated yet essential figures in jazz history.
