Let me share a little tale: This compilation is what introduced me to Yello. Back in the '90s, as a rave enthusiast, I was really looking forward to this release. However, not knowing who Yello were, I was more drawn to the remixers than the original tracks. But as I listened, it dawned on me: "Wait, I know quite a few of these original songs from the radio! And they're fantastic! I should definitely explore more of Yello's work!"The album, well, it's certainly a reflection of its era. It's packed with high-energy, fast-paced, noisy rave anthems that would probably overwhelm today's EDM crowd. But there are also more thoughtful remixes of Yello's music. Of course, none quite match the brilliance of Blank's production, but it's obvious who crafted their tracks for the dancefloor and who did them out of admiration. Like every remix or tribute album, this one isn't a must-have. But it's a fascinating snapshot of the time. I'd love to hear another attempt, but this time with more serious electronic artists. (I don't think anyone wants a Steve Aoki remix of THE RACE featuring Pitbull or something like that.) But to truly appreciate HANDS ON YELLO, you really had to be part of that scene, I suppose.
Since every single one of these tracks is a NEW remix, is it really necessary to use the compilation tag? It's a remix ALBUM, so wouldn't it make more sense to use the 'album' tag for all these versions instead?
