Sure, it's a tad off-key, but it's a really clean and vibrant pressing. Super quiet too. Not too shabby for a 54 year old vinyl! Grab it!
This is a brilliant sounding version of what I think is Billy's most overlooked album, but it's a real bummer about the noticeable issue with the speed. It doesn't take away too much from the music for me, but it'd be great to have the original mix officially remastered, perhaps with some demos and the Hempstead performance on vinyl. As an original copy, I'd pick this over the original US pressing any day. It's easier to get your hands on and has excellent quality heavyweight vinyl. Music - 8.5/10 Pressing - 9/10
Billy Joel's first album - this is the 1983 edition, all remixed, remastered, and corrected for speed. One of my faves, it's packed with tracks that are more thoughtful and reflective than his later work, and super easy to listen to. It's got more of a folk vibe than a pop feel, making it perfect for those gloomy, rainy days.
The vocals have a lot of distortion. But, if you raise the tone arm up a bit, it seems to solve the issue.
On the rear cover of the CD (on the side, where the title is) and on the CD itself in my version (Sony/Columbia, 1991), I believe there's a printing mistake: it's been imprinted "Cold Spring HarboUr" instead of "Cold Spring Harbor". Has anyone else spotted it or knows anything about it? Hope my english is understandable. Best.
