Product description

"The Point!" is a captivating journey into the whimsical and introspective world of Harry Nilsson, released in December 1970 under the RCA Victor/Legacy label. This enchanting album, clocking in at just over 32 minutes, is a delightful blend of baroque pop and singer-songwriter genres, showcasing Nilsson's unique storytelling and musical prowess.

The album is a concept work, narrating the tale of Oblio, a boy born without a point in a world where everyone else has one. • Fantastic Pressing, Pleasing Disc

    5 out of 5 stars
    zimaorxoDecember 24, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

This pressing sounds absolutely fantastic, and the disc's color is really pleasing to the eye. The comic that comes with it isn't as sharp as the original, but hey, it's there and that's pretty neat.

  • Club Edition Record Mystery

    5 out of 5 stars
    gtebkzeggOctober 5, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Could this be a club edition? It reminds me of what RCA used to do with their record club pressings. I think I might have been part of a record club back then, but I'd totally forgotten about it until I stumbled upon a couple of other LPs from RCA that were club issues. (Then, of course, I started wondering which other albums in my collection might be club editions too.) This record has a unique number etched on it, and there are not one, but two previous numbers scratched out. Does anyone out there have any info or insights to share?

  • Favorite Track, Enjoyable Album

    5 out of 5 stars
    ClVohiiSeptember 18, 2025United KingdomπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

"Think About Your Troubles" stands out as one of my absolute favorite tracks, hands down. The lyrics are pure genius. However, I'd never experienced THE POINT as a whole until not long ago, and I'd also never caught the animated short film. That said, I'm still thoroughly enjoying the album. The storytelling is a hoot, packed with clever wordplay, and the tunes are a joy. This particular record sounds fantastic, though there's a touch of harshness on a few tracks, but the overall range is impressive, with a cozy, immersive sound. My copy spins smoothly, with just a hint of crackle at the start of each side.

  • Harry's Joyful, Witty Legacy

    5 out of 5 stars
    MdujketaNxuasAugust 20, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

This record brings me so much joy. Harry's departure was way too early, and albums like this truly show the kind of witty, sarcastic music we're lacking since his untimely exit.

  • Cozy Hugs Throughout

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish!! Each and every song and narration feels like a cozy hug!! Definitely in my top 5 ever!!

About Harry Nilsson

Harry Nilsson, born Harry Edward Nilsson III, was an American singer-songwriter who captivated audiences with his unique blend of baroque pop and singer-songwriter sensibilities. Rising to fame in the early 1970s, Nilsson's music is renowned for its pioneering vocal overdub experiments, a deep reverence for the Great American Songbook, and a distinctive fusion of Caribbean rhythms. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Nilsson achieved significant commercial success without the need for extensive touring or public performances, a testament to his powerful and emotive recordings.

His discography is a treasure trove of memorable hits, including "Without You," "Coconut," and "Everybody's Talking," a cover of Fred Neil's song that showcased his crystalline vocals and songwriting prowess. Nilsson's talent was so revered that he was once cited by The Beatles' John Lennon and Paul McCartney as their favorite recording artist. His work spans multiple genres and styles, often blending nostalgia with innovation within a single song.

Despite his immense talent, Nilsson faced personal struggles, including stage fright and alcoholism. His financial troubles, exacerbated by poor management, added to his challenges. However, his legacy endures through his timeless music, which continues to inspire and enchant fans worldwide. Nilsson's contributions to music earned him two Grammy Awards, cementing his place as a legendary figure in the world of pop and rock.
