Can't quite put my finger on it, but this release somehow outshines Nilsson Schmilsson. Mofi, you've truly outdone yourselves, I'm so blown away by the sound that I'll overlook those recent seam splits. The audio quality is just... absolutely phenomenal. 6 stars.
Harry Nilsson has outdone himself with this stunning album, which sounds absolutely incredible. It's clear why Mobile Fidelity chose to reissue this referance recording now.
SON OF SCHMILSSON comes across as the creation of a talented, somewhat unhinged artist let loose to explore his musings. In "Joy", the boundary between spoof and genuine is hazy, kicking off as a heart-wrenching honky tonk number before morphing into a send-up of the genre. The entire album follows suit...just as you anticipate a zig, it veers off with a zag. No complaints about this copy, though the production is a tad excessive, there's a wealth of detail in the soundstage, boasting a wide, panoramic feel. My copy spins smoothly with a hint of surface noise at the start of each side.
Amazing pressing, cozy sounds, zero pops or static. Fantastic album, if your a Nilsson fan, this is a must have.
