  • Simon's Wry, Captivating Journey

    5 out of 5 stars
    Cee_UjpvtcigtJanuary 1, 2025United States🇺🇸

I was really looking forward to this album, popped it in the player, and was let down at first. But each time I played it, I found more to appreciate. By the fourth listen, wow! I was hooked. Join me on this journey with "Stranger to Stranger." There was a time in my life when I'd upset people because they didn't understand my sense of humor. Paul Simon's humor is just like mine, very dry. His lyrics are full of ironic turns, like the start of "The Werewolf," "Milwaukee guy led a fairly decent life, made a fairly decent living, had a fairly decent wife; She killed him -- sushi knife; Now they're shopping for a fairly decent afterlife." Great irony there with a wry comment about the commercialization of religion. The first single "Wristband" seems to mirror a scene from Michael Keaton's film "Birdland" where the star gets hassled about getting into his own event, remarkable for its pulsing rhythmic track, much like the "Birdland" soundtrack. "Proof of Love" appeals to me with its melodic dirge and great acoustic guitar, "The road is steep; The air is thin; I hear a voice inside my skin, "Don't be afraid; Your days won't end with night; Feel the sun, drink the rain, let your body heal its pain, bathe beneath a waterfall of light." Lovely poetic images. "The Riverbank" is the track that's been in my personal top ten this summer, captivating me with its blend of melody and lyric, "Army dude, only son, nowhere to run, no one to turn to, he turns to the gun; It's a cross, it's a stone, It's a fragment of bone; It's a long walk home." "Cool Papa Bell" is a song about a Negro League baseball player which Simon spices up with well-placed profanity. On the deluxe edition, Simon wraps up the set with a duet with classic rock singer Dion on "New York Is My Home." Gorgeous! Paul Simon's "Stranger to Stranger" fits right in with his other work, fresh, filled with wry wit and creative arrangements. Enjoy!

The record sounds amazing, it's definitely one of the best sounding vinyls in my collection.

  • Rhythmic Vinyl Gem

    5 out of 5 stars
    CgWizeoFebruary 11, 2024United States🇺🇸

This album is fantastic, and the vinyl pressing is top-notch. The majority of the tracks are super rhythmic and packed with percussion. Some standout songs are "Wristband", "Cool Papa Bell", and "In A Parade". The sound quality is excellent, featuring deep and pure bass, sharp and clear percussion, and very detailed instrumentation. I bought my copy new on sale, and it plays smoothly and quietly, with no surface noise at all.
