The Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series re-release of Royal Flush blew me away—Kevin Gray’s mastering is simply stunning, offering a beautifully lifelike, intimate performance with superb instrument clarity that still maintains the tight, club-like feel of the original. My copy is flawlessly flat and remarkably noise-free, with zero distractions, allowing Byrd, Adams, and the rhythm section’s tones to shine with authentic warmth and groove. The soundstage places each musician in their own sweet spot, yet the energy is so captivating you’ll find yourself nodding along or keeping time without even realizing.

Picture my astonishment when I set this up at 33rpm and found out I had a 45rpm pressing on 33rpm vinyl. Clearly a GZ mix-up. At 45rpm, the audio is just okay — digitally sourced, similar to the Blue Note 75s. This is my second Elemental pressing, purchased mostly out of intrigue since they've reissued some fantastic, rare Blue Notes, but I don't think I'll bother with them again. The other pressing I had was Duke Jordan's Back to Jordan, a brilliant album that doesn't sound as brilliant in that reissue. That reissue lacks impact and clarity. I could probably say the same about this one....Setup: Kuzma Stabi S PS turntable, Van Den Hul MC One Special etc
