Sounds amazing on this pressing. Music Direct has them back in stock. No need to overpay.
Fantastic quality pressing that still sounds amazing after all these years! This album showcases DS/MK's shift towards more extended, artistic compositions, like Romeo and Juliet for instance.
I beg to differ with the folks here who aren't as excited. Back in the 80's, I first encountered Making Movies on cassette, and while I adored the songs, the sound quality was awful - it felt squashed, thin, and lacked dynamics to give the instruments some breathing room. Even when I listened to it on CD, the issue persisted. So, I stopped playing it regularly. But on a whim, I recently grabbed the vinyl version, and as soon as the needle hit the record, it became clear that the original mix was meant for analog. The higher frequencies, even if subtle, glide smoothly and highlight Knopfler's guitar playing, and once that's elevated, the rest of the instruments fall into place. It's just something I don't experience through other formats.
Finally snagged the new pressing of this after dealing with a super noisy one back in '21. Absolutely perfect, gorgeous copy. Over the moon to finally own it!
When you stack it up against the Because Sound Matters version, there's a tad more depth and width to the soundstage, a touch more clarity and detail, but the tonality feels all sorts of off! The treble's way too bright and harsh, even a bit sibilant at times. The vinyl's flat and quiet, but the sound's a 7/10 for me... I ended up sticking with the Because Sound Matters release, it just sounds more natural and right to my ears. Sold my Mofi 45RPM... Vertere DG-1, Nagaoka MP-500, Vertere Phono-1 MkII L, Naim Uniti Nova, Sonner Allegro Unum.
