This record I've got sounds absolutely amazing. It's an old-school vinyl, so there's a bit of crackle from the tiny specks of dirt left on it after cleaning. Apart from that, the mastering on my copy is super quiet, and the music is full of life, with a real punch and clarity. The bass is incredibly deep but still tight, not muddy at all. The highs are bright but never harsh. I'm not the biggest Dire Straits fan, so I wasn't expecting much in terms of blues rock or guitar skills. This album feels more like a mood piece than their other stuff, which makes it a perfect match for the warm, punchy, and clear sound of my copy. Just for the sound quality alone, this album deserves a full five stars from me.
The sound quality of this record is impeccable, but I'm not impressed with Mofi's quality control. Not a single record in my collection is perfectly flat, and the Side A is noticeably off-center (Side D is a bit off too). It's not too bad for most of Telegraph Road, but during the quieter piano parts and sustained keyboard notes, it's quite noticeable. I've gone through four Mofi records in the last few days, and I'd say 75% of them have had off-center issues! Considering the price we pay for these in the UK, it's almost enough to make me question if they're worth it.
Absolutely a 5. Incredibly hot and full of energy, some punches feel like they literally hit you right in the gut. Even if you're not a huge fan of the band, this demo disc is a must-have. Update: just coming back to this page 6 months down the line to reiterate, this is a top 5 album for me. I anticipate this pressing to gain a reputation and eventually increase in price as more people start to take notice...
I'm really pleased that the version of this album has finally arrived, and it sounds just as good as the original UK pressing. I had issues with previous releases, like the reissue with the red promo sticker that was remastered by B.Grundmann, or the pricey MFSL 2x 45s, because of their poor sound quality or bad price-to-quality ratio. But now, the sound, print quality, and overall quality of this RSD 2022 pressing are outstanding, and in my opinion, they truly justify the higher price. Highly recommended!
Great sound quality but there's a bunch of background noise (crackling, that weird groove sound)
