I didn't think this would sound so great, but it really does. Definitely worth checking out.
This is a 1969 version, but not one of the initial pressings, as it doesn't feature "Daddy's Song". Listening to AERIAL BALLET, words like 'adorable', 'playful' and 'delicate' spring to mind. It's an enchanting, fanciful creation, brimming with tunes, catchy hooks and smart arrangements, and Nilsson's voice truly was something special in his early years. The record sounds fantastic. I initially thought it was a Dynaflex when I spotted the orange label, but it's actually a heavier, deep groove pressing. There's a wealth of depth in the bass and a detailed, warm and immersive soundstage. My copy plays smooth and clear, with hardly any surface noise to speak of.
Well-balanced, warm analogue mastering job. The pressing is nice and quiet, and the artwork stays true to the original.
This Mono record is absolutely fantastic. The copy I have isn't perfectly flat, but it doesn't impact the sound at all. I don't usually care about coloured vinyl, but this one complements the artwork's hair colour nicely. On to the music - it's incredibly clear with fantastic depth, surprising width, and great separation. If I played this for someone and asked if they thought it was stereo or mono, I bet they'd say stereo. Cartridge: Ortofon 2M MM Mono.
The sound quality on this reissue is fantastic, it's got that classic mono warmth and depth.
