Having heard this, I'm now uncertain about getting the mofi one step. Every aspect of this pressing is sharp, authentic, and thrilling. This has just become one of my top-sounding LPs. I'm not entirely sure if it's digitally recorded, but it definitely has that warm, analog vibe. Strongly recommended.
This pressing has completely amazed me! It's an absolutely gorgeous piece of vinyl! From what I know, it's all analog, super clean, and dead quiet - not even a trace of surface noise. It's 180 grams and as flat as can be. The sound is incredible, it just jumps out of the speakers! I've never owned an original vinyl copy of 1984 (I had it on cassette), but I can't imagine it being any better than this. I really like the light blue Warner Records label on this 2019 repressing. The inner sleeve is nice and heavy, a reproduction of the original. It was cut by CB (you can see it in the dead wax) at BG mastering - a must-have if you're a fan of this album!
I just received this vinyl press. The sound quality is incredible. I've never heard 1984 sound this fantastic before.
Van Halen - 1984————————————This American rock band, hailing from Pasadena, California, was established in 1973. They're often credited with bringing hard rock back into the spotlight, thanks to their electrifying live performances and the incredible skills of their lead guitarist, Eddie Van Halen. In 2007, they earned their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. ————————————1984, their sixth studio album, dropped on January 9, 1984. It marked the last time lead singer David Lee Roth would feature on a Van Halen album until A Different Kind of Truth (2012), as he parted ways with the band in 1985 due to creative differences. This album is the final one to include all four original members (the Van Halen brothers, Roth, and Michael Anthony), though they did reunite briefly in 2000 to start work on what would eventually become A Different Kind of Truth. Roth returned in 2007, but Eddie's son Wolfgang took Anthony's place in 2006. Both 1984 and their debut album are Van Halen's bestselling records, each shifting over 10 million copies.————————————A1 1984 1:07A2 Jump 4:04A3 Panama 3:31A4 Top Jimmy 2:59A5 Drop Dead Legs 4:13B1 Hot For Teacher 4:42B2 I'll Wait 4:41B3 Girl Gone Bad 4:43B4 House Of Pain 3:18————————————Van Halen's 1984 is an outstanding album for so many reasons. But what draws me to it is the story it tells as you listen, with arguably one of the best, if not the best, preludes to an album I've ever heard. The track '1984' perfectly captures the experimental synth rock vibe Van Halen was going for and sets the stage for what's to come. With chart-toppers like 'Panama' and 'Jump', this album is a must-have for anyone browsing their local record store or shopping online. Plus, it's packed with hidden treasures like 'Drop Dead Legs', which has to be one of my all-time favorite Van Halen songs, right up there with 'Panama'. Rest in peace, Eddie. ————————————Album Score: 8.5/10
