Folks complaining about the 45rpm format just don't understand. This is top-notch archival stuff, and it should be presented in the best way imaginable. If you're too slack to flip the record, just stream it digitally, for heaven's sake.
I'm a massive Lou Reed fan, but after giving this a listen, I half-kiddingly said to my wife, "Thank goodness for John Cale, right?" Both Lou and John shaped each other's careers in significant ways. Reed gets all the praise he deserves, but Cale is still way underrated and underappreciated.
Who do they think they are, putting such a fantastic and significant piece of history in such a lovely package on top-notch vinyl? The packaging is fantastic, the vinyl is beautifully pressed, and it comes with heavy printed inner sleeves and poly bags inside. I don't find the material tiring at all on my setup, and the sound is perfect for demos. I know everyone's always complaining about something these days, but this set is amazing. I can't believe how many people are whining about it being on 2LPs when there's a 1LP version...
It's really neat to listen to these early tracks, and I'm a big fan of Lou, but this release is a bit exhausting. The sound quality is pretty rough, which is expected, I guess. I'm confused why they chose to do this as 45rpm when the original material isn't great quality. The packaging, though, is fantastic.
