No matter if you pay the full amount or snag an open copy for less, it's really quite good. "We'll Cut" by Kevin Gray from the MONO Tapes, pressed just right as far as I know. It's got a basic jacket, but at this budget, I can't bring myself to complain. The tracklist is amazing, with Miles at the helm, though I must admit, his earlier work isn't my personal favorite. In my opinion, this is more of a great piece to have for comparison, to see where Miles began and how his career evolved. Don't let my opinion deter anyone else, it's probably just a matter of personal taste.
Impeccable quality - zero crackles, zero hiss - just the incredible tunes by Miles Davis and his band.
Definitely a must-have for any collection. The remastering is stunning, given how old the recordings are. Not a hint of crackle or pop. Perfect disc. Great work by BN and Kevin Gray!
KPG has truly outdone themselves with the latest 1500 era "compilation" albums in the BNC Series. This one's no different. While KPG's work can sometimes feel average, they've managed to surpass their usual standards here and deliver something exceptional.
The soundstage is absolutely phenomenal, particularly, as others have noted, considering the age of the tapes. Excellent separation throughout, with Miles and the other horns genuinely appearing to emerge from the ether. The drums mostly sound fantastic, save for the dense sections where they get a bit muddled, likely due to the recording tech of the time. The pressing is clean with a touch of surface noise, which oddly enough, adds a certain charm to this release. All in all, it's as good a reissue of classic jazz recordings as you could hope for. Grab it without hesitation.
