Man, what makes this set so rad for me is that the final two discs feature Milt Jackson on vibes. So, it's practically like having a swinging Modern Jazz Quartet album. Since MJQ is my all-time favorite jazz quartet, this is an awesome surprise. Plus, the physical packaging is top-notch. The sleeves, the booklet, the outer box for storage, you name it. Plus, every single disc is perfectly flat and super quiet. Amazon selling these for $40 is such a cool deal, daddy-o. Might grab another just to have a spare.
This is an incredible pressing, virtually silent except for a couple of pops on just one track (which is amazing for a 4LP set!), and the sound quality is exceptional. The audio is rich and detailed, with excellent depth and clarity when played on an Ortofon 2m Blue. It's not a greatest hits compilation, but if you're a serious Miles Davis fan, this is a must-have for your collection. The packaging is also well-done - not ultra-premium, but not basic either - great value for money. My copy was nearly flawless; it's audiophile quality, with no warping, no scratches, and perfectly centered. The booklet is packed with interesting background info and photos of Miles himself, though I wish there was more detail on the individual standards. Strangely, they don't include basic details like '33 RPM' or 'Mono' on the LPs, which seems to be a common oversight for those trying to decide between mono and stereo versions. I only picked this up recently, so kudos to those who grabbed it earlier at a bargain price. Even now, I think it's well worth $100, as the quality of the pressing alone makes it a collector's item. Highly recommended!
It seems mono, but I ain't certain every song is mono.
