Back in '94, I got this album, and vinyl wasn't really a big deal then. But let me tell you, this vinyl version absolutely crushed the CD back in the day. In my opinion, this is how Pearl Jam was truly meant to sound—no remastering, no redefining, no remixing...just pure, authentic sound. That's all there is to it.
It seems they sorted out the issues on this one in subsequent pressings 'cause I just grabbed a copy from Target and it sounds amazing. I'd rather have an original pressing 'cause I'd prefer a single disc over two, but I'd also rather hang onto an extra $30-40.
The sound quality on this is quite nice. It feels like the pressing was handled by three fellas from Kellogg, Snap, Crackle, and Pop.
I've purchased this 2016 re-release on two occasions...First time I sent it back 'cause on the left corner of the back it says 2011. And from what I've read here, the 2011 edition isn't good. So how do I know I'm getting the 2016 version before opening it?
At 13, I stumbled upon this gem for just 50 bucks, still in its sealed packaging. It became my birthday present that year. When I finally opened, cleaned, and listened to it, I was absolutely floored by the sound quality. This remains one of the finest original pressings of PJ's work in my collection, easily surpassing 'Yield,' 'Dark Matter,' and 'Gigaton' in terms of quality. Plus, I managed to keep the original hype stickers and barcode intact from the shrink wrap. What a stroke of luck! This one's right up there with 'Ten' and 'Vs.' for me, no doubt about it!
