Product Description

Dive into the avant-garde soundscape of CAN's 1971 masterpiece, "Tago Mago," a groundbreaking work that defies conventional genre boundaries. This seminal album, released under the Spoon Records label, is a fusion of krautrock, space rock, and progressive elements, with experimental and psychedelic undertones that push the limits of rock music. Spanning over 73 minutes, the album features seven tracks, including the hypnotic "Paperhouse" and the energetic "Halleluwah," showcasing CAN's innovative approach to composition and performance.

"Tago Mago" is a testament to CAN's experimental ethos, blending rhythmic complexity with atmospheric soundscapes. The band's use of repetitive patterns, unconventional instruments, and spontaneous improvisation creates a unique listening experience. Tracks like "Oh Yeah" and "Aumgn" highlight the group's ability to merge rock structures with free-form jazz and electronic textures, making this album a pivotal work in the development of experimental rock.

Recorded in a castle in Italy, the album's title refers to the island of Tago Mago in the Balearic Islands, reflecting the band's fascination with exotic locations and mystical themes. The recording process itself was unconventional, with the band living communally and experimenting with new sounds and techniques. This creative environment is evident in the album's eclectic mix of styles, from the minimalist "Peking" to the chaotic energy of "Bring Me Coffee or Tea."

CAN's "Tago Mago" remains a landmark in the history of experimental music, influencing countless artists across various genres. Its innovative spirit and fearless exploration of sound make it a timeless work that continues to captivate and inspire listeners. Whether you're a long-time fan of CAN or a newcomer to their music, "Tago Mago" offers a rich and rewarding journey into the world of avant-garde rock.

  • Vinyl Remaster Shines Bright

    5 out of 5 stars
    TekiWxjiJufp5 January 2026United States🇺🇸

Gotta give this 5 stars 'cause it blows the CD version outta the water. Super dynamic with an awesome range of sound separation. Mastered loud. It's hot and bright in some spots but I can't really fault that, seems like that's the vibe they were aiming for with this remaster. Definitely a must-have on vinyl and I'm stoked that I finally snagged it.

  • Excellent Quality, Great Pressing

    5 out of 5 stars
    YoktiPuxg21 December 2025United States🇺🇸

The quality of my copy is excellent. As I haven't had the chance to compare it to other versions, I can't spot any surface imperfections, and the audio is crisp and spacious. Disc 1 has a slight wobble, but it doesn't impact the sound at all. Great pressing and mastering for a price that does this fantastic album justice.

  • Can's Timeless Masterpiece Remastered

    5 out of 5 stars
    bvyifipkafi19 December 2025United States🇺🇸

Hands down, this is and always has been my top pick from Can. I've got the first pressing on Spoon, and I gave this fresh remastered version a spin. Like someone else mentioned, I'm picking up on details I'd never noticed before, and I've listened to this record more times than I can count. I'm stumped as to why so many folks are griping about this reissue... perhaps their ears aren't what they used to be? I'm absolutely in love with this album, and it's sounding phenomenal.

  • Live 1972 Cologne Broadcast

    4 out of 5 stars
    zeztbicb13 November 2025United States🇺🇸

This live CD captures a radio broadcast from the Grosser Sendesaal at WDR Funkhaus in Cologne, Germany, dated June 24, 1972.

  • Mids Overwhelm

    4 out of 5 stars
    Miquzuq_Zbonlj9 November 2025United States🇺🇸

Slightly too mid-heavy for me to give it a perfect score. It's got awesome dynamics and instrument clarity, but the bass notes can get buried sometimes. The mids do step on each other a bit as well. Highs are crisp and don't distort. Really good, but not quite great.
