I'm sending back the first copy I received- Side A is filled with quite a few noticeable hairlines, marks, and scratches, including one significant one that makes the whole of A Reflection jump through. Side B, though, is flawless! Odd. Despite the faulty pressing on my copy, the audio is fantastic, with a great kick on the drums, deep bass, a broad soundstage, and a level of detail that I never picked up on when listening to it on FLAC or MP3. I’ll update my review once my (hopefully not faulty) replacement arrives and I can listen through without any pressing problems. Update: There's some slight surface noise in the quieter parts of tracks and at the start of each side (especially on A Reflection), but overall it's not distracting. Sounds fantastic despite the usual flaws that come with GZ pressings.
The sound quality of my record is absolutely amazing. Upon my initial listen with headphones, it's incredibly lively and there's not a hint of any unwanted noise. I'd absolutely suggest this particular pressing to others.
This album marks the Cure's transition into maturity, with a new bass player and the addition of a keyboard. It's a successful change; perhaps a tad over the top, but it holds together nicely, mostly keeping things minimal, sparse, and dark, culminating in the track "A Forest".
The pressing is spot on, and the mastering is flawless. I can't say much more except that MOV has done an amazing job with this reissue, and it sounds fantastic.
Once you've given the record a good clean, it truly comes to life! Though, as many have noted, the packaging when it arrives is quite disappointing.
