  • PSB Album: Excellent Quality, Minor Scratches

    5 out of 5 stars
    metivurmupna26 September 2025United States🇺🇸

Every PSB album is a joy to listen to for me, always a breeze. The pressing is top-notch, the record lies perfectly flat, save for some dust scratches on track B5 that cause a slight crackle during a few spins, but overall it plays beautifully. The audio quality is superb, crisp and detailed, and the packaging is first-rate. I'd definitely recommend it. Played on: Technics SL-100C, Ortofon Concorde Music Bronze, Rega Fono MM MK5, Technics SU-G700M2, Yamaha NS-777, Vinyl Cleaner Pro-Ject VC-E

  • Neil Tennant's Captivating Vocals

    5 out of 5 stars
    Dufju0731 July 2025United States🇺🇸

I must confess, Neil Tennant's vocals are absolutely phenomenal, so full of emotion, so captivating, so refined, truly an added bonus when paired with the PSB's music! It's genuinely mesmerizing, in this album especially, at least from my perspective!

  • PSB's Raw, Productive Phase Shines

    5 out of 5 stars
    quek_nanoz26 July 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

This is the sort of "Release" that PSB enthusiasts have been hoping for. While the album may not be a top pick among fans, I've always appreciated its raw, guitar-driven sound that really highlights their (quite impressive) songwriting skills. The two bonus discs packed with extras are definitely worth checking out, no matter your thoughts on the main album. This was their most productive phase, where they eagerly pursued dance and club sounds, almost as much as the more well-known but less favored vibes of the time - they just left them off to keep the album cohesive. The b-sides gathered here have been featured on singles and Format before, but even the most dedicated fans will find plenty of demos and unreleased tracks that, when taken together, provide a full and contrasting picture of the era. It's fascinating to see just how much material they produced during this time that arguably surpasses the final selections, with the added benefit of material recorded for the PopArt collection (including its singles and b-sides).

  • Pet Shop Boys' Disappointing Release

    1 out of 5 stars
    jimknem18 February 2025United States🇺🇸

Release" stands as the most disappointing album in the Pet Shop Boys' discography. The video for their first single is also one of their weakest ideas, featuring a low-budget camera trailing a couple of rats in a subway for around three minutes. Their second single, "I Get Along," has a Beatlesque vibe and was accompanied by a video from Bruce Weber ("Being Boring," "Se a Vida E"). The visuals are vibrant, and the acting is solid, but ultimately, the Pet Shop Boys are recycling their own concepts in a repetitive and nonsensical sequence of images. The final single, "London," was only released in Germany, likely due to lackluster global sales. The video, shot with the cheapest camera imaginable, worsens the overall concept. How such a talented dance band could produce an album this bad is beyond me. The only tracks that shine on "Release" are probably "E-Mail" and "Samuraï In Automn." The rest is a mix of terribly executed pop-rock songs, like "Birthday Boy" and "Love Is A Catastrophe." A few decent B-sides, such as "Sexy Northener," "Nightlife," and "Searching For The Face Of Jesus," should have been included on the album to improve its overall quality.

  • Tim Young's Excellent Vinyl Re-releases

    5 out of 5 stars
    gwovay12 January 2025United States🇺🇸

Yet another fantastic job by Tim Young on these Pet Shop Boys vinyl re-releases. The sound is excellent and full of life.
