• Audio Issues Mar Great Artwork

  The artwork and the inner sleeves are top-notch. But wow, I'm dealing with some audio problems. Most tracks sound fantastic! Yet, the final two songs on side A are just awful. The sibilance is wayyyy too much for my taste, and it's persistent. I've tested it with two different cartridges, and both have the same issue. All in all, not a terrible pressing, but those songs have excessive sibilance!

  Overall, I'm quite fond of this album; it's a soothing experience that you can enjoy time and again without it becoming tiresome. Pet Shop Boys are true experts, and with each release, they demonstrate their prowess. The pressing is superb, the record lies flat, and it plays smoothly. The audio quality is excellent, with no signs of distortion. The cover art is top-notch, and I appreciate the design. I'd definitely recommend it. Sit back and savor it. Played on: Technics SL-100C, Audio-Technica VM-95ML, Rega Fono MM MK5, Technics SU-G700M2, Yamaha NS-777, Vinyl Cleaner Pro-Ject VC-E.

• Impressive Sound Quality Despite Quiet Pressing

  This pressing is a bit on the quiet side due to the album's length - it's the Pet Shop Boys' longest, after all - but once you crank up the volume, the sound quality is impressive. The bass is pleasantly deep and robust, really pushing tracks like A6, while the highs are crisp and well-defined. There's a hint of harshness on A6, but it's so subtle that you'd only notice if you were specifically listening for it. (I'm using an Ortofon 2m black cartridge, so it might be different with other styluses.) Even though my copy isn't in pristine condition - it's probably a VG+, acquired a few years after its release - the music is vibrant and full enough to drown out any minor background noise. I haven't heard the repress, but the reviews for the 2017-18 reissue series seem positive, so it's likely a good choice. However, if you're considering an original, rest assured that it sounds quite good. This has been my sole listening copy for over 20 years, and I've never felt the urge to upgrade it.
