Amazing album by PSB. A must-have for Dance, Pop, Sinth-pop, House, and Dream-House music enthusiasts, DJs, and fans across generations. What more could you ask for? PSB have made a triumphant return with this record. It was a delight to catch their live performance in Rome at the Auditorium Parco della Musica (Cavea) during the summer of 2015. The light show, numerous costume changes, dancers on stage, and stunning visuals behind Tennant and Lowe made for an incredible spectacle. I vividly recall everyone grooving to the music. It was an outstanding concert/show. Un disco eccezionale dei PSB. Un must per gli appassionati di musica Dance, Pop, Sinth-pop, House e Dream-House, per i DJ e per i fan di tutte le generazioni. Che altro si potrebbe desiderare? I PSB sono tornati in grande stile con questo disco. È stato un piacere vederli dal vivo a Roma all'Auditorium Parco della Musica (Cavea) durante l'estate del 2015. Lo show di luci, i tanti cambi di costume, i ballerini sul palco e i video mozzafiato alle spalle di Tennant e Lowe hanno reso lo spettacolo indimenticabile. Ricordo tutti che ballavano. The sound quality on this Parlophone UK 2 LP set is absolutely fantastic. Just a heads up, Parlophone U.S. releases are typically pressed by Rhino Records (and the quality can vary a lot). It's worth spending a bit more to get the U.K. editions from Parlophone, you won't regret it.
This album is fantastic, possibly one of their finest works. It's a dance album that strongly reminds me of Introspective, or even their underrated Relentless EP that came with Very. It's a welcome comeback to their dance roots after the somber Elysium. The songwriting isn't their strongest, but when it comes to contemporary dance music, there's been few albums in 2013 or since that can compare to it.
Perhaps Pet Shop Boys' finest record since Very/Relentless (1993), though that's not exactly a tall order. Electric (2013) offers a rather diverse collection, yet still falls short in delivering chart-topping singles. However, 'Love Is A Bourgeois Construct' stands as one of PSB's greatest tracks in at least two decades, since 'Go West' (from Very). It's somewhat reminiscent of 'Go West', with a male choir and being a (partial) cover (of 'Chasing Sheep Is Best Left To Shepherds'). Additionally, 'Thursday', featuring Example (Elliott Gleave) actually rapping (unlike Tennant's low-energy attempts), isn't half bad as another single. There were three more singles released, though they weren't particularly deserving of that status ('Bourgeois' didn't even crack the UK Top 100). 'Bolshy' is a pop track, not a good one, and feels out of place among the mostly EDM original concept that evolved into this full album—hence the eclectic mix. There was an accompanying commentary track for Electric. Tellingly, and worryingly, Neil and Chris gloss over 'Bourgeois', barely acknowledging it, hinting at their struggle to recognize their own best work in two decades. 2/5 - 'Love Is A Bourgeois Construct' is excellent, but that alone doesn't elevate Electric to a great album.
This press is pretty hushed. Sounds amazing, tho. Adore this album.
