My discs are in perfect shape, flat and spotless. This particular pressing is incredibly quiet but packs a real punch, with dynamic sound that begs to be cranked up! I recently caught "Galvanise" on the radio, which prompted me to dust off my copy and give it another spin, especially since I've upgraded everything from the cartridge to the speakers. It's absolutely fantastic - and I snagged it during the New Year sales for half price, nine years ago too!
For their fifth record, The Chemical Brothers go ahead and PUSH THE BUTTON, and with "Galvanize," they seem to revisit their big beat origins, teaming up with Q-Tip over a hip-hop groove and a South Asian sarangi. Tim Burgess from the Charlatans UK pops up again on "The Boxer" before the big room 4/4 beats make a comeback on "Believe," featuring Kele Okereke from Bloc Party. Likewise, Anna-Lynne Williams of Trespassers William lends her soothing vocals to the shoegaze-house track "Hold Tight London." "Come Inside" brings back the big beat vibe with its heavy bassline, while "The Big Jump" aims to keep the energy up. "Close Your Eyes" has a touch of indie sparkle, and "Shake Break Bounce" incorporates some Spanish guitar to its booty-shaking rhythm. The psychedelia also returns on this album, with the reversed sounds of "Marvo Ging," The final track, "Surface to Air," takes a blissful turn with a Peter Hook-esque bass that builds to an ecstatic peak. The button delivers.
As for the audio quality, a lot of CB's stuff is super squashed and loud, but this one's an exception. Yeah, it's intense, but the great dynamic range makes up for it. The bass is mind-blowing, house-shaking, just as you'd expect.
Great original UK pressing with thick vinyl. I recall purchasing this way back when. The cover art is truly awesome. I’m pretty sure I’ve got all the 12” singles from this album as well.
This press is off the charts 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥, honestly blown away. It's got that same top-tier sound quality as my high-end vinyl presses, and it's clearly digital. Plus, the vinyl is incredibly quiet! It's a total game-changer. Surface to air is the ultimate.
