Warp dropped Jimi Tenor, so who do they go and put their cash on? Not sure what they were thinking, must be feeling the pinch like Sheffield Wednesday and can't pick from the best anymore.
Jamie Lidell keeps up his soulful takeover of Warp with JIM, but this time around, he kicks things off with a cheerful 60s vibe on tracks like "Another Day" and "Green Light." "Wait For Me" keeps that going, but songs like "Out Of My System," "Little Bit Of Feel Good," and "Hurricane" really dive into that funk-soul groove. Lidell seems to be embracing funk in its purest form here, with less electronic influence than on MULTIPLY, but he also shows his softer side with "All I Wanna Do" and "Rope of Sand." But mostly, he's all about having a good time, like on "Figured Me Out" or the piano-driven "Where D'You Go?" JIM is definitely a fun ride.
This album reminds me of a poor Elton John record, equally un-funky. Picked it up for 49p at a charity shop, feeling totally swindled.
