This one's likely my least preferred from the classic Bon Scott era albums. The production feels overly polished to me, and most tracks seem like the producer pushed the band to soften their sound and songwriting, aiming for a more mainstream appeal. There's also something off about the mixing and mastering. The sound balance leans heavily on the left channel with instruments and vocals, while the right channel is mostly guitar echoes and reverb tails. The US versions have somewhat fixed this, but it's still noticeable. This Australian version sounds more open than the US ones, but the right channel is a bit dull and darker, lacking the clarity of other pressings I've owned or heard. In my view, the only good reason to have this pressing is for the unique front cover artwork.
Just played this little treasure and was blown away by how incredible it sounds. My copy is in fantastic condition. The audio quality is crystal clear, just like you'd hope from an authentic Japanese pressing, with a powerful punch. I'm never parting with this one.
Folks will spot issues right off the bat with "Shot Down In Flames" and roughly 10 secs into "Night Prowler", right? Like, there's this repeating tick noise and no scratches you can see on the vinyl. I just took one back to a nearby shop because of this - they opened their other two copies to check and they were all like that. Edit: After spinning 5 copies of this, I'm telling you, it's a trash pressing. Every single one had either pops or that scratchy noise on a bunch of songs.
My one came with a basic Atlantic sleeve, not the one shown in the picture.
Dude! This thing is absolutely killer! Sounds incredible, and check out ARUN in the dead wax!
