  • Poor Quality MJ Vinyl

    2 out of 5 stars
    pisawuqidii20 December 2025United States🇺🇸

I got this picturedisk brand NEW from the factory. The audio quality is pretty terrible. Not pleased with the mastering whatsoever – it's got a really "thin" sound and lacks depth. Plus, there's a bunch of crackling in the background, which just proves my point: this pressing is subpar. I know the picturedisk standard background noise is to be expected, but still, it's not helping. If you're buying this for the music, don't bother – just stream it on Spotify instead, haha. Sure, it's cool to have two MJ clocks and great for fans, but not so much for audiophiles. Terrible... Also, the sleeve is awful. It'll "eat" the vinyl over time. Wrong material used. If background noise doesn't bother you, then this release is okay, I guess. So, I'm giving this a 2/5 rating.

  • Nostalgic Joy in Rare Box Set

    5 out of 5 stars
    xbuixongnoizaj20 November 2025United States🇺🇸

I feel incredibly lucky to have recently managed to buy a sealed copy of this uncommon and fantastic box set at a fair price, and to have the joy of opening it just like it was 25 years ago. I've been a fan of this album since I got it on CD back in 1995, so I was really looking forward to this set. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I wasn't sure what to anticipate, considering it's a 90s vinyl release, but it surpassed any expectations I had. The box itself is quite sturdy, although a bit thin, and the artwork is clear and nice. The book is absolutely fantastic, filled with some cool photos, album and award details, heartfelt quotes from Michael's famous friends, and more. The three LPs are well-pressed and very clean. The only background noise I noticed was on LP3, likely due to some light wear from being squeezed under the book and the other two LPs for a couple of decades. Which leads me to my only real complaints. First, the book should have been placed under the records instead of on top, and second, it would have been much better to have jackets for the LPs or at least thicker inner sleeves instead of the paper-thin ones they came with. That was the only part of the box set that felt cheap and a bit disappointing. Now, about the LPs, there were only a few stray pops and clicks after cleaning, and I was really pleased and, honestly, surprised by the overall sound quality. The “greatest hits” part is said to be remastered, and you can definitely hear the difference. I don't think I've ever heard those songs with so much clarity and depth. Truly impressive, in my opinion. The only issues I had with this part were a slight amount of IGD at the end of both sides of LP1 and some shallow tone arm waggle on side 3 that caused some noticeable warping during Heal the World. But, those issues weren't too distracting, and I was mainly focused on the HIStory Continues part of the album anyway, which turned out to be almost perfect. The new songs were a bit quieter than the older ones, but not unusually so. All of the new songs sounded amazing, and I didn't encounter any notable issues in this section other than the little bit of background noise on LP3 I mentioned earlier, but that wasn't due to the pressing itself. I can't quite put into words all the joy and nostalgia I felt while listening to the songs in this section, but to give you an idea, when the drums kicked in during Earth Song, I smiled so hard my cheeks hurt instantly. This box set was an incredible experience that I've been waiting for many years, and I'm grateful to finally own it and enjoy it time and time again. I can definitely recommend it to any MJ fan if you can find a copy at a reasonable price, but that's sadly very hard. Still, it's well worth it and won't let you down.

  • Second Pressing Still Amazing

    5 out of 5 stars
    cgoxeru5 October 2025United States🇺🇸

I managed to get a copy, but it's the second pressing with the edited version. They clearly don't care about us, and it's missing the alternate orchestral intro on the title track. But damn, it still sounds amazing!

  • Surface Noise in MJ Tracks

    4 out of 5 stars
    obroutel924 September 2025United States🇺🇸

I concur with an earlier comment about the bothersome surface noise that disrupts the peaceful moments in these gorgeous tracks. Much of the music from this MJ period was created using drum machines and computer-generated sounds, so don't expect the warm, rich vinyl quality we adored in his earlier albums from the Quincy Jones days. The sound is still decent overall, though. A must-have for any MJ fan's collection, without a doubt.

  • Solid Sound, Poor Packaging

    4 out of 5 stars
    mamjegaop11 September 2025United States🇺🇸

Yah, this vinyl ain't gonna warp, that's for sure! But man, the surface noise and the way it's packed are just awful. The sound quality's alright though, pretty good actually. If you can't swing a first pressing, I'd still grab this one.
