Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
Mine's been great, both discs are perfectly flat and silent, zero complaints. The pressing quality of the original mix is alright. Some might say the original UK pressing is better, but that's just opinion. Though, the 2010 mix really shines.
Rubbish. But let me elaborate....First copy... unbearable non-fills and a crinkled disc two.Second copy... no non-fills and a slight disc two bend, so it should be okay!Now.... my familiarity with this recording is limited to the excellent 2CD/DVD edition with both mixes and 2010 in 5.1 surround. The basic sound of this vinyl mimics the CDs from that set. But this is cut quite low considering its digital origin. I don't mind digital on vinyl as it can sound fantastic. The issue I have is similar to what the reviewer below found. Baked in IGD. The first disc is indeed much worse. The drop in clarity into a narrow mess of sound is very noticeable on disc one past the halfway points of each side and also a bit with side two. But the second disc of this second copy that seemed fine with its minor warp isn't fine....the first side has a loud mid-bassy out of phase groove swoosh that while music is playing makes your ears think something's happening behind your head that shouldn't be. With this... my disappointment is complete.Oh wait, no it isn't.... this thing is £38. £38!!! There must be a lot of non-listeners and collectors out there keeping this vinyl revival alive because this is just yet another poorly cut, somewhat poorly pressed and overpriced disappointment. I look forward to getting my money back for both copies and returning the CDs back into the Marantz!
The Dolby Atmos soundtrack uncovers nuances much like the TB Dolby Atmos mix does. It's a fantastic set, even though I was secretly wishing for the mix I thought was the original (the one featuring the powerful choir) to be part of it, but you can't win them all, right? Sadly, the booklet is quite odd: the font selection appears low-cost, and whoever came up with the brilliant idea to use white text on a white background should perhaps consider a career change, maybe try driving a bus or something. Eagerly awaiting next year's Ommadawn outing.
This album has truly let me down, especially since it's a Half-speed cut. I assumed it would need a stylus that's not too worn out, but the IGD and distortion in the loud parts of the classic mix are just too much to bear. I even bought a new stylus (microline), but that didn't make a difference. The issue must be with Abbey Road or the pressing itself. The 2010 mix is way more stable and has minimal IGD at the end of the groove, though it's not perfect. I'm really unhappy with this release. I've tried two copies from Spain, and they both have the same problem. Does anyone else feel the same way?
Pressing is flat and quiet. music still sounds amazing after so many years!
