The pressing is top-notch, though the records have a slight waviness, they play smoothly (I gave them a wash, and crackling is hardly ever an issue) with no distortion. The audio quality is superb, and when I compare it (not a formal A/B test) to the CD version of Mike Oldfield's Amarok that I own, the vinyl just sounds incredible. In my opinion, vinyl always takes the lead, offering a more enjoyable, slightly different listening experience. The individual instruments and sounds seem more distinct and clearer, the bass feels fuller, and overall, the sound feels more organic to me. That said, both the CD and this vinyl record sound amazing, just with their own unique touches. The cover, despite the font I mentioned earlier, is high-quality, made from thick paper, and the printing looks good, it does what it's supposed to. I'm genuinely thrilled with this release, Mike Oldfield's music just shines on vinyl. The division into four parts is perfectly executed, and compared to the CD, the music feels more immersive thanks to the breaks for flipping and changing the record. I wholeheartedly recommend it. This album has never sounded so incredible. I've compared it to both the original vinyl and CD, and this version takes the cake in terms of detail, soundstage, and separation. I picked up on sounds I'd never noticed before. The font on the cover could've been better, and the liner notes and artwork don't bring anything new to the table. A bit disappointing, but I'd still highly recommend this for the audio quality.
Incredible! This is an absolutely gorgeous pressing - the quality is top-notch. The vinyl was flawless right out of the sleeve, not a single pop or crack. The sound, to my ears, blows away my two 1990 versions by a mile. Played it on a Linn Sondek LP12.
Barring the poor artwork font choice, the pressing is alright, though not flawlessly plain. The sound quality is definitely a notch above my 1990 German pressing, which isn't too shabby at all.
I keep coming back to this album and always have a great time listening to it. In my opinion, it's one of Mike Oldfield's finest works. The sound quality is incredibly detailed, with a bass that goes incredibly deep, and the stereo space is utilized beautifully. I haven't heard anything quite like it, and I think the sound is outstanding. The album is set to be released on 2LP vinyl this year, so I'm really excited about that. I highly recommend it.
