Fantastic album that's slowly gaining recognition after it was harshly criticized back in the day. Would be awesome to have a well-made 2 LP reissue with all the bonus tracks from the CD version.
This soundtrack is alright, actually pretty good, accompanying a film that's just okay. I like it for its cheesy charm, but that's not the main point. The re-recorded songs sound pretty decent, though the original versions are still better. I'm not a huge fan of the reworked third verse in "Ballroom Dancing." The new tracks are quite good, with "No More Lonely Nights" standing out as one of my favorite Paul songs from that era. The cassette versions released in the U.S. are both excellent in terms of sound quality, with the original Columbia pressed on chrome tape and the 1989 Capitol featuring XDR encoding. If you're looking to get a copy, I'd recommend this one for its appearance, but either one is great sound-wise. This album is often criticized unfairly, and I'm tired of pretending it's not good.
Every track is a masterpiece, except for No More Lonely Nights (Playout Version), which is absolutely revolting.
Plenty of folks aren't fans of this album, but it might just be my top pick. I was a 13-year-old kid in 1984 (arguably the greatest year in music ever), and I owned this very album. I must've played it hundreds of times. I adored it then, and I still do now. Sadly, my original copy is long gone, though I managed to keep the cover. When I got serious about collecting vinyl, I treated myself to a new pressing. I've given it plenty of spins since, and I'm still in love with it. That being said, I recently got my hands on this Japanese edition, and let me tell you, I'm over the moon. The sound quality is phenomenal. Sure, it's not the original 'Yesterday and Today' or 'Rubber Soul', but it's Paul McCartney, and it rocks. This album is a gem, and this pressing has the best sound I've ever heard from it. It's crisp, rich, and just plain excellent. I'm thrilled to have it in my collection. So, to all you Broad Street critics out there, do yourself a favor and give this pressing a shot. Try to make a case that it's not a fantastic piece of work from one of the greatest Beatles!
This film has completely slipped my mind - not a single memory of it. But the soundtrack? It's like a best-of compilation from Paul's work. So, it's pretty great. The tracks were made just for this movie, so they're fresh takes on his songs. There's also some movie chatter mixed in.
