Serving as the final Depeche Mode studio album to receive the 00's reissue series makeover, 'Exciter' stands out as a stark contrast to anything the band had previously created. Following a substantial hiatus since 1997's 'Ultra,' this record is a complete departure from its predecessor. Whereas 'Ultra' was filled with feelings of gloom and inadequacy, 'Exciter' radiates a warm and wonderful sense of clarity, as if the dark clouds that once clouded their minds have lifted, allowing for a more subtle and nuanced approach to their songwriting. Amidst these brighter moments, there are still hints of dark, devilish delights, but they are delivered with a confidence that had been missing from their work for quite some time. A prime example is the deep cut 'The Dead Of Night,' which exudes an industrial vibe with its heavily distorted beat and saucy lyrical content, providing a stark contrast to the more heartfelt tracks like 'Shine' and the album's debut single 'Dream On' (which, to be honest, isn't as strong in its album form). There are also brief interludes of electronic bliss, such as 'Lovetheme' and fan favorite 'Easy Tiger,' which give the album room to breathe and allow the band to explore new musical territories that they had seldom ventured into before. Although four singles were released from 'Exciter,' it is the second single, 'I Feel Loved,' that truly shines with its pulsating rhythm and seductive vocals, proving that Depeche Mode could still craft cult-like hits. Undoubtedly a stronger effort than 'Ultra' and a great new chapter for the group, 'Exciter' is a fitting way to conclude Depeche Mode's initial run of studio releases, which was entering its third decade at this point. If you're searching for something more contemporary, memorable, and a mature alternative to their early works, 'Exciter' is definitely an album worth exploring.

This record is absolutely fantastic. The sound quality is superb. Rich and crisp. Not a hint of noise, just flawless. The album is fantastic too. Wow, my copy delivers incredible sound! The dynamics are full, the bass is deep, and the stage and details really shine. There are a few clicks during quiet parts, but it's not a big deal. Highly recommend it.
