Out of the 7 Culture albums that I own and am familiar with, Baldhead Bridge is the one I find myself coming back to the most. It's the most uplifting and joyful of their albums, and I think it's even stronger as a collection of tracks than some of the more well-known or accessible ones on Front Line. If you enjoyed Two Sevens, Harder than the Rest, Cumbolo, International Herb, and Good Things, then you'll absolutely adore this one. I double dare you not to play this on a sunny day and not dance and sing along with the legendary Mr. Joseph Hill.
BALDHEAD BRIDGE, Culture's follow-up to their debut TWO SEVENS CLASH, has a cozier feel. It's not quite as powerful, but it's packed with some gorgeous tracks. A couple of these songs were also cut for Sonia Pottinger, and honestly, I'm more fond of the take on "Behold" from HARDER THAN THE REST than the one here. This original 1980 US pressing is spotless, with a rich low end and a warm, natural sound. My copy plays smooth with just a hint of light surface noise.
